‘Wildflower Secrets’ Linocut Print — Southeastern Meadow Nightscape

This black and white linocut print features a young black bear cub tucked quietly among a tangle of native Southeastern wildflowers. Beneath a crescent moon and drifting clouds, Blue Ridge foothills rise in the distance while late-summer blooms sway around the hidden cub. The bold contrast of ink and paper creates a timeless, storybook feel—both serene and slightly mysterious—perfect for nature-inspired homes, cabin decor, Appalachian aesthetics, and collectors of wildlife art.

The American black bear is an iconic inhabitant of Western North Carolina’s forests, often glimpsed at the edges of fields and mountain coves where wildflowers thrive. In this piece, the cub is partially concealed among wingstem, goldenrod, joe pye weed, ironweed, purple echinacea, and partridge pea—species that light up Southeastern roadsides and meadows in late summer and early fall. Many of these plants are overlooked as weeds, yet together they create dense, vibrant habitat for pollinators and shelter for wildlife. Their tall stems and intricate seed heads offered the perfect layered texture for a hiding place under the night sky.

The crescent moon and rolling foothills evoke the quiet magic of Appalachian evenings, when the air cools, insects hum, and the mountains settle into silhouette. This design celebrates that fleeting hour when wildness feels close and intimate—when even a small bear cub can disappear into the abundance of native blooms.

This print measures approximately 9x12 inches.
The design was hand-carved from a linoleum block and printed by hand, making each piece unique and perfectly imperfect. No two prints will be exactly alike. Relief printing embraces subtle variation, resulting in one-of-a-kind artwork crafted through a mindful, hands-on process.
